Who’s missed watching live sports? For me, it’s been challenging and staying home because of the coronavirus has been crazy. In the middle of March, the NBA season was postponed until further notice. The good news is that the NBA is back and will start up on July 31st. There will be 22 teams vying for a chance to bring home the NBA championship. With those 22 teams, there’s about five that are probably the favorites to win it all. Below are the top 5 teams that could win the 2020 NBA championship.
5. Miami Heat
This may surprise some and others will probably agree with this selection. The Miami Heat currently sits 4th in the Eastern Conference and they’re one of the better defensive teams. The Heat is a young and hungry team that matchup well with anyone. If the standings remain the same, they would have a 2nd round battle with the Milwaukee Bucks. Out of all the teams in the league, Miami has played Milwaukee the best as they have people to throw at Giannis and frustrated him. The only thing that could hurt them is that their young guys don’t have a lot of playoff experience. Jimmy Butler has wanted his own team to lead for years; this could be his golden opportunity.
4. Milwaukee Bucks
The Milwaukee Bucks currently sit atop of the Eastern Conference and have the best record in the league. Giannis is likely to win his second consecutive MVP award. The Bucks scare me because once you focus on Giannis, the entire team suffers. If Khris Middleton can be the player he’s capable of being and that signed that huge deal, Milwaukee chances are greater. The Bucks are a great defensive team and some might argue that Giannis is a favorite to win Defensive Player of the Year also. The Bucks could face the Heat in the second round and a possible date with the Celtics in the conference finals. As of now, the Milwaukee Bucks are my fourth favorite team to win the 2020 NBA Championship.
3. Boston Celtics
We’re staying in the Eastern Conference for the third team. I’ve stated earlier in the season that the Celtics are going to be a problem. With the emergence of Jayson Tatum, Boston is poised to surprise a few teams. As of now, they’re my favorite to make it to the NBA Finals out of the Eastern Conference. Gordon Heyward is looking healthier and you add Jaylen Brown and Kemba Walker, this team matches up with everyone.
2. Los Angeles Clippers
The Clippers is currently 5 and a half games behind the Lakers in the Western Conference. They have beaten the Lakers two out of the three games they’ve played each other. With the long layoff, the Clippers should be healthy and have Paul George and Kawhi Leonard playing together. The Clippers are one of the best defensive teams in the league. They will more than likely face the Lakers for the chance to reach the NBA Finals. Many people will look at the Lakers-Clippers series as the NBA Finals. Could the Clippers get past the Lakers and advance to the 2020 NBA Finals?
1. Los Angeles Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers are my favorites to hoist up the Larry O’Brien Trophy in October. Lebron James and Anthony Davis are two of the best players in the league. If healthy, who could stop the team of them? The supporting cast isn’t bad either seeing they could go as many as 11 deep. With Lebron James having about four months of rest, he could dominate like he always has. Anthony Davis is eager to showcase his talents in the playoffs and finally win his elusive, first ring. If my predictions become true, who wouldn’t love an Los Angeles Lakers versus Boston Celtics NBA Finals?
